Aromatherapy Mood Elevating Oils

Bergamot, clary sage, lavender, basil, geranium, grapefruit

Relative questions about aroma therapy. How does aromatherapy work with sadness and stress? Can essential oils really help?

Through scientific research, these are 3 uplifting benefits:

Bergamot: a powerful mood booster - also known as citrus aurantium var. Bergamia. There are a lot of historical and ancestral reposts of the calming effects of Bergamot essential oil, as well as scientific studies supporting these claims. In a 2014 study of 58 hospice patients, the reports are interesting. The hospice patients are given hand massages once daily for one week with this oil blend in 1.5 oz dilution of sweet almond oil. The essential oil blend consisted of these 3 essential oils in equal amounts: Bergamot, Frankincense, and Lavender. The requests being 100% of patients who revised the aromatherapy hand massages, reported less pain and less depression. However, there were no tests done on the individual essential oils. This study did show that aromatherapy massage with this specific essential oil blend is more effective for pain and depression management than massage alone.

Another study conducted on an inhalation of Bergamot essential oil with elementary school teachers in Taiwan. The test was on the physiological stress signals that are easy to record and straightforward to interpret. It was found that a once a week 10-minute inhalations of this aromatherapy showed a significant reduction in blood pressure, heart rate, as well as restored mental activity back to a balanced state. It was also noted that the higher the degree of anxiety, the higher the degree of benefit.
